Gate Crafters cedar driveway gates each come with a heavy duty
welded steel frame that is fully concealed except for the barrel hinges. The cedar
used on the gates is clear old growth western red cedar (no-knots). They are natural
(no finish) and kiln dried. Cedar is one of the best woods for outdoor use and can be
used "as delivered" outdoors. After some weathering, cedar turns a light grey color.
You could also preserve the natural color by reapplying a UV wood sealer regularly.
Others also choose to go with a traditional North Eastern look by painting the gate white.
The wood is attached to the internal steel frame using PL premium
waterproof construction adhesive. The internal frame has all welded joints, 11 gauge steel,
and a 1"x 2" frame. The gates are made of the highest quality steel, welding, and wood by two
companies that specialize in each.
All Gate Crafters cedar driveway gates come with ball bearing hinges!
Each of our quality cedar gates are approximately 4" thick. The dimensions
for the gates on the pages below are for the actual structures. Most people leave at least 1 inch
of clearance between the gates and the hinges. Even though the hinges are adjustable, it's typical
to leave about 2"-4" between the outside edges of the gates and the inside faces of the posts, which
the gates are attached to. Please allow 4-6 weeks for production.
The Gate Crafters cedar driveway gates are manufactured by New England Woodworks.
