Yes. Especially since they all need to connect to green we had to make it so more than one can be in one plug. Just place all the wires desired in and turn the screw to tighten the plug.

One is a possibility is dead cell in your battery in your GTO, inc / Mighty Mule automatic driveway gate opener. Another could be your battery is not getting electricity to charge it. Check your power source. It may be the GTO, inc / Mighty Mule automatic driveway gate opener transformer is unplugged, blown or the solar panel hasn’t been getting much light. If all your power sources check out test your battery. Batteries in a GTO, inc / Mighty Mule automatic driveway gate opener generally last 3 – 5 years and is probably dying and needs to be changed. How does wind affect my openers performance?

There is no sure way to say exactly how much your wind will affect your automatic driveway gate. There are many factors, including the size of your driveway gate, the total surface area of your driveway gate, how often the wind is strong.
If you live in a costal area or a plains state with frequent high winds, we suggest upgrading to the next highest automatic driveway gate opener. If you are unsure of your gate opener needs GateCrafters.com has certified automatic gate opener technicians on staff everyday to help you choose. It would also be recommended to use an automatic driveway gate lock to lock your driveway gate shut in the closed position. This takes pressure off of the automatic driveway gate opener’s arm when the wind pushes against the driveway gate.
The main concern with automatic driveway gate openers and wind is the added strain to the motor of the automatic driveway gate opener and the wind generally trips safety sensors that are a part of all automatic driveway gate opener systems. What happens after an obstruction?
▼
An obstruction causes your gate to reverse directions and then stop after 2 seconds. A gate opener safety device makes your gate return to the full open position.
What do I do if after adjusting my gate opener, the arm retracted too far and became stuck?

Your gate opener will meet a level of resistance it won’t accept if your arm has retracted too far when it tries to go back out. You will have to bypass the control board to avoid censoring the power going to your arm. Take the wires that go to your arm and touch them directly to the battery. This will activate your arm in the reverse direction and power through the stuck positioning.
What if there is an emergency and an ambulance or firetruck must enter my property?

What is the difference between inertia and obstruction sensing in autoamtic driveway gate openers?

Some automatic driveway gate openers have both inertia and obstruction sensing. The difference between the two is the obstruction sensing on your automatic driveway gate opener changes how sensitive your gate will be to an obstruction. You can set it to detect an obstruction at a low level of interference or high. Inertia comes into play after the automatic driveway gate opener has detected an obstruction. It is the level of pressure the automatic driveway gate opener will exert to push through the obstruction. It can be set to no force or enough force to push through minor debris. Just remember inertia is void until an obstruction has been detected.

How do I load test my battery for my automatic driveway gate opener?

When batteries on your automatic driveway gate opener have read cells or are getting old they may read fine (13.5-13.8 VDC) at rest, but not be able to perform under a load. To test your battery under a load, keep the battery fully installed into the automatic gate opener system; attached both to the incoming power source and the automatic gate opener arm. Take the positive and negative leads from your voltmeter and place them on the positive and negative battery spades. Then run you automatic driveway gate opener through a cycle and see what the voltage of the battery drops to. A fully charged, healthy battery shouldn’t drop more than a volt.
Why was my credit card charged twice?

Many times this problem has to do with an exit wand. If for some reason your exit wand malfunctions your gate will randomly cyle. If there has been any addition of metyal objects in the area of your wand problems may also occur. Disconnect your want from the system and if the problem diminishes then you have a malfunctioning wand.
Can I speak to sombody at my gate while I am inside?

Yes. We offer a variety of intercom and vidiocom systems that allow the person at the gate to ring into the house and be heard. With the use of a videocom system the person can also be viewed. The gate can be opened with the push of a button from the inside master station.

What wires are included with my gate operater?

The only wire that is included is the wire to connect the master arm to the slave arm. All other wires must be purchased seperatly. We offer 1000' rolls of 16 gauge, 2 conductor wire commonly used to connect a power source. It is also available by the foot. Just Ask!

Many people would like to use solar panels as the sole source of energy for their openers but they feel the recommending size is not large enough to supply enough energy. If you do want to use a larger panel the one recommended we suggest using a larger battery. A larger battery will accept the larger amount of energy that the larger panel may absorb. The P1 and P2 buttons on my Estate Swing 1100, 1102 are not working, why?

Most of the time thier is a simple solution to this problem. Many times during shipping or installation the actual control board may become dislodged from the housing. If there is no clicking sound when the buttons are pressed then you must unscrew the top of the housing from the control board. There are snaps that hold the board in place. If the board became dislodged from these snaps then the buttons will not make contact. Just make sure the board is fully snapped in and your problem should be solved.
The power light on my E-S1100 or 1102 is flashing rapidly, why?

As stated in the manual, a rapid flashing light indicates a discharged battery. The battery must be charged for a full 12 hors prior to initial use.

which gate opener is best for a gate on a slope

This all depends on how you have the gate swinging. (If it slides up a slope no automation will work).
If it is swinging on a slope you have one of two choices on making it automation ready. The best choice is gate should swing perfectly level out away from the slope (typically the slope is going up into the property so you set the gate to swing out toward the road so the slope does not affect the level swing of the gate), If you do this method then any gate opener will do if it is the right one for your power requirements (solar, long distance low voltage or 120VAC near by) and right for the weight and length of the gate. Be aware some gate opener require a purchase of additional brackets for push to open operation.
The other option if you gate must swing in is to use Liftmaster SWG606 Uphill Swing Hinges. these hinges allow the gate to tilt up to 15 degrees as it swings level to accommodate a slope. If using these hinges you also must use the LiftMaster CSW200UL8 Elite Series Professional Single Swing Gate Opener - 1/2 HP (Standard) gate opener with the additional purchase of the Swivel Arm Q103. The reason for this gate opener option is it is the only one that has available the swivel arm which is needed to pair with a gate that is going to tilt as it swings. This is an expensive and labor intensive setup but a very reliable one.
Lastly here is the reason you cannot just leave your gate swinging up hill on normal hinges or sliding on a slope and just "power" through it. All gate openers have safety obstruction sensing built into them so if it feels resistance it will stop before crushing something. This sensitivity does not diminish as the motor gets larger. We think about it this way, no matter how powerful the motor is no manufacturer is going to design a system that will crush a small child when it comes in contact with one; and there is no way to detect the difference between a small child and gravity or wind or other things that cause resistance on the swing of a gate.
is silicon spray ok to spray on sliding gate chain?

Sliding gate chains are very similar to bicycle chains and get submitted to very similar conditions. It is best to go to a sporting goods store and get bike chain lubricant and use that. Stay clear of heavy viscosity lubricants as they stay on the chain and wind up attracting more dirt and dust to stick to it.
Will gate open if fire alarm goes off?

This would depend on the fire alarm system. If the system can close a contact then you could wire that to the gate opener to open the gate. But then you also have to consider the auto re-close function of the gate. If that is turned on you would need the contact from the fire alarm to toggle and stay toggled until you manually turn it off so it doesn't re-close on someone trying to leave. This will wire into each gate opener differently; once you confirm your alarm sy`stem has a dry contact to trigger an external device contact us and we will help you wire it in.
My gate has opened randomly for no reason.

Some of the key things to look for when a gate opener is opening by itself is the accessories / receiver.
The number one cause is an exit sensor. They are very sensitive devices and will cause the gate to go open as if a car is triggering it when there is no car. Try disconnecting the device and see if the problem persists.
If you don't have an exit sensor it could be the receiver. Receivers could be picking up another radio signal in the area. Newer receiver coding and frequencies are making this less likely however it should still be checked in the same way by disconnecting and seeing if the problem persists.
Lastly any other accessories (keypads, push buttons, etc) should be disconnected to see if the problem follows those devices. Many times if the devices start to build up corrosion internally they can malfunction and open the gate.
Why is there only one ball bearing?

When installing a driveway gate the top pin with the ball bearing will bear the weight of the gate the bottom pin with the pin facing up will keep the gate plumb so the pressure on this pin will be on the side of the pin. This configuration is important for both safety and security, this prevents the gate from being “lifted” off its hinges.
can I use a single swing metal gate with a wood fence?

For residential applications swing gates are cheaper and safer, additionally swing gate operators are cheaper to own and require less maintenance. If you need a slide gate because of space limitations, be sure to get one that has an internal trolley to improve the safety.
What do the ratings mean?

Gate openers are rated based on the length or the weight of a gate. Some times it is a fixed scale, meaning the gate opener is rated for a length and a weight. For example if a gate opener says 12 feet AND 400 lbs, the manufacturer is saying that the gate can be both. Some times it is a sliding scale, meaning the gate opener is rated for a length or a weight. For example if a gate opener say 12 feet OR 400 lbs then at 400 lbs the gate should be shorter and a 12 feet the gate should be lighter. All the gate openers with this type of rating on GateCrafters.com have the sliding scale is the listing of the gate opener.
In either case you never want to exceed the ratings. Even if your gate is very light the gate opener will not have sufficient leverage on the gate because of the length. So the weight of the gate, although light, has a magnified impact on the gears and motor of the opener causing additional wear and most likely will cause unexpected obstructions.

I want to hard wire my WKP-P keypad to my Liftmaster LA412 control board. How?

Use batteries rather than the 12V power from the control board. The batteries usually last over 5 years because they are hardly ever used. Liftmaser has a different type of ground configuration so the 12V power from the board with a 3 terminal shared ground design for an accessory will not work.
Here would be the wiring:

When I push the remote, the gate opens about 1 foot and then closes about 6 inches like it hit something.

Depending on the gate opener and how long it has been installed this could be a few things.
If you gate opener is a battery operated system, ie Mighty Mule, Lift Master, Apollo, Patriot, GTO/PRO - the battery could be worn down and needs to replace. When the battery gets low it will mistake the low voltage for the voltage draw caused by an obstruction.
If it is a direct voltage gate opener - most other brands, then if could need lubrication on the pivot points of the gate opener and the hinges of the gate. (check this if battery is not issue from above)
If it is a new install check the geometry of the rear pivot mounting of the gate opener. If the setback is off the leverage will not be correct and it may be too much force on the motor and making it obstruct.
Why do I have to purchase an additional phone number for my GSM to work?

The GSM systems by Estate Swing, EST-1000 intercom and the EST-64 receiver, require a GSM compatible SIM card. You can either add a line to your existing plan or go with a pay as you go phone. The key is to get a SIM card that is compatible with GSM technology. The two biggest carriers to offer such a card are AT&T and T-Mobile. The SIM card must be able to send and receive text messages, have minutes available, be unlocked, and have a working phone number. The GSM intercom and receiver unit are basically working cell phones that receive calls and text messages. The GSM interom also makes calls to up to three phone numbers to allow access to the gate remotley. For instance, a guest pulls up to the gate and he/she hits the call button. The GSM then rings the administrator phone number and up to two other manager numbers if the admin. does not answer the phone. The admin. or the manager can then grant access to the gate no matter where he/she is, as long as they have cell phone coverage.

Can a keypad open two different gates?

There are a few we carry that can do this. The Linear AK11 and Estate Swing Stainless Steel flush mount keypad will work as they have two relay outputs. These can be wired to two different devices and active either one with different codes. The MDKP when paired with the AP5 receiver can activate two separate gates with a wireless connection between the keypad and the receiver. The receiver would need to be wired to both of the openers.

What is the difference between the E-S 300 and E-S 500?
▼
The length of the arm is the difference. The E-S 300 is shorter than the E-S 500 giving the E-S 500 more leverage over your gate. This is why the E-S 500 is rated for larger and heavier gates. Other than that everything is identical.
I have a P294-1k receiver on my e-sl 450 gate opener. I would like to know what mode to put it in?

For the P294-1K Universal Receiver the preferred setting is Continuous. A Continuous setting insures that the receiver will not receive a double signal, which would stop the gate immediately. The further you are away from the receiver the longer you will need to hold down the transmitter button. If the receiver was set to a pulsed transmission it would send multiple signals to the gate opener, especially if the transmitter button is held down for a longer period of time.
Mighty Mule FM502 Gate Opener has one beep every five seconds, what does this mean?

One beep every 5 seconds on the Mighty Mule FM502 does not have a defined diagnostic purpose. However if you are possibly estimating the seconds wrong there are two diagnostics that do match up with that gate opener.
1 beep every 2 seconds: Master Arm limit switch.
Here is how you will test for this issue. Remove the master arm from the master arm wire terminals. Take the slave arm motor wires and insert them into the master arm terminals. Then take the master arm terminals and insert them into the slave terminals. Power down the board and power it back up. Theoretically now you should be getting 2 beeps every 2 seconds, which indicates the slave arm has a limit switch issue. This would be because you made the master the slave.

Even new batteries can have low power before they are charged. To correctly evaluate your battery voltage put a multi-meter on the battery while the battery is under load. The battery should be above 13VDC and not drop more than 0.1 volts under load.
What is the difference between the Estate Swing E-S 500 and E-S 1600 gate openers?

Both of those gate openers are 24VDC systems that have adjustable limit switches in the open and closed position. They are very similar in stroke length as well (stroke length is the length of the screw drive that the shaft of the gate opener runs on. The longer the stroke length generally means the more leverage the gate opener will have on a gate).
Differences:
The E-S 500 uses magnetic limit switches that are adjustable by sliding them with your fingers. The E-S 1600 uses mechanical limit switches that are adjustable by turning a screw. The E-S 500 has the advantage in the longevity of the limit switches over the mechanical ones of the E-S 1600. Since magnetic limit switches do not have parts that touch or move there is less likelihood of the switch breaking. The E-S 1600 has the advantage over the adjusting of the limit switches. While the hand sliding of the limit switches on the E-S 500 is very convenient it is tricky to make slight adjustments. The E-S 1600 can make a slight adjustment very easily by turning a screw.
The E-S 1600 has some advantages for installers. It is UL rated (both meet UL standards but the E-S 1600 has paid for the certification testing) and it is more repair friendly. The UL certification helps protect installers from liability on commercial applications. The E-S 1600 housing is able to be opened completely by removing bolts and every part inside of the opener can be accessed and replaced. If an installer is offering a maintenance plan this would be an easier route for repairing the opener. The E-S 500 has some parts that are replaceable but they are not as easily accessed.
What are the differences between the Apollo 835/836 boards and the 1050 board by Apollo / NICE?

NICE purchased Apollo a few years ago because of Apollo's leadership in the solar gate opener market. What are the difference between the exit wands beside the price?

Within each model the first thing that is seen is the length of the wire. It is not recommended to extend the length of the wire so one with a long enough wire should be purchased. The further back the wand can be placed the faster a vehicle can move toward the exit and the less the vehicle will have to slow in order for the driveway gate to open.
For the difference in models:
The Estate Swing exit wand comes in Standard or Deluxe. Both have ways of getting rid of interference which is a big issue with exit sensors. The standard has shorter wire which means it will be closer to the end of the gate. So it comes with a range adjustment board to help prevent it from picking up the movement of the gate as moving metal. The longer deluxe model comes with a grounding strap on the end of the wand that can be attached to a grounding rod at the location of the exit wand to help rid electrical noise from having a longer wire.
The Gate Crafters Exit wand and the GTO / Mighty Mule exit wand are basically the same as each other as basic wands, just different brands. The GTO / Mighty Mule has a shielded wire that helps to eliminate some electrical noise but not the same as having the grounding strap. The GateCrafters exit wand has both a normally open and normally closed side to the built in relay that opens it to alternate applications.

Can I turn off one remote if I no longer want that person to have entry?

It can be done but the convenience of it depends on the remotes that you have. The remotes that come with all of our gate openers are designed for residential usage where you have a small number of remotes given out. In this case there are dip switches inside all the remotes and on the receiver that must match. If you change a single remote for the receiver that remote will stop working. If you cannot get that remotes back you should change the dip switches on all the other remotes and on the receiver.
We also carry Linear Mega-Code remotes. These remotes are used in communities and in businesses. Each remote has a remote id. The remote id is then programmed into the receiver. The receiver can then cancel a single remote id upon command without having the remote present.

My gatecrafters universal gate timer doesn't work, what should i look for?

Here is the wiring for the timer for making the gate open at a time and close at a time:
Power terminals 1 & 2 of timer to:
12 or 24 volts dc
Terminal 4 to the common of the accessory terminals on the gate opener
Terminal 5 to where an automatic exit device would go.
Terminal 3 not used.
The other thing to check is the display should show AUTO on the timer. If this is not you will need to toggle the Manual button until it is.
When the gate is open the ON light should be illuminated. When the gate should be closed the light should be off. If it is not off then check the above to make sure it is on Auto and not ON; then check your programming to make sure it is scheduled to turn off properly.
Lastly - Auto-reclose must be on in this configuration. That is what actually closes the gate - the timer simply delays the gate opener until the desired time.
If you are trying to use it with auto-reclose off or for another purpose like turning off an accessory at a certain time or disabling the gate at a certain time let us know and we will explain a different way of hooking it up.
Does the RE-1 have a contact / relay to light up a lantern on a column?

Yes, the Linear RE-1 telephone access intercom has 2 relays on it. The relays are dry contacts that are 3 AMPS AT 30 VOLTS AC OR DC MAX. Because you cannot run 120VAC through these relays you would either have to use a second relay or the GateCrafters.com low voltage solar light kit. If using 120VAC lights, you would use a low voltage power supply that runs through the RE1 relay. When the RE1 relay closes the circuit it would allow the low voltage to trigger the high voltage relay to allow voltage to the light system.

Some ways the RE-1 could control the light is:
When you type a code in the keypad it toggles the light on and when you type the code again it toggles the light off.
The internal clock can automatically turn the lights on at a preset hour and turn them off at a second preset hour.

Gate opens past where it should - what should i do?

This really depends on the type of gate opener and if it is a new install or an existing one that is starting to have an issue.
Mighty Mules, GTOs, and the E-S Allegiant have fixed open limit. If it is a new install then the unit was not installed in the open position as it should have been. If it is an existing then possibly the brackets have shifted or the limit switch is broken.
Liftmaster LA400 and LA412 have programmed stop points. For new or existing try programming the open position again. If it does not work then there could be a rev counter or board issue.
Estate Swings have adjustable open limit switches for the ES1000, 300, 500 and 1600 series. For a new install adjust your limit switch so the piston retracts less. For an existing, check to be sure brackets have not moved and then check to see if the piston is moving past the limit.
What is the maximum solar panel size in watts allowed for the 1050 board regulator?

For the Apollo 1050 board there is a built in solar regulator. The highest wattage solar panel you can use in this gate openers built in regulator is

Why is there only one ball bearing in my hinge package?

The is only one ball bearing in the
hinge packages because of how the hinges are designed to be hung. The top hinge barrel will have the hole in the barrel facing up. This one will receive the ball bearing. The other barrel is mounted upside down. This is to prevent he gate from being lifted off its hinges. Gravity will prevent the hinge from riding on the ball bearing and thus eliminates the purpose of it in the bottom hinge.
Photocell vs loop, when should one or the other be used with a gate oepner?

Loops are the most dependable method used for safety in gate openers. However many do not go this route because of the difficulty of installation and the cost. Loops (
need loop detectors as well) are installed in the driveway. Most commercial properties have 3 for safety. One on the outside of the property, one on the inside past the swing of the gate, and one directly under the gate. The one directly under the gate is called a shadow loop. The way this set up would work is if a car is coming or going while the gate is opening or closing part of the car should be over one of the two safety loops that are right past the gate in the open and closed position. When the gate is open or closed and not moving the shadow loop comes into play. The shadow loop is only active when the gate is not active. Because it is directly under the gate path it becomes inactive when the gate begins to move so it will not detect the gate itself. If a car is in the path of the gate before the gate has started to move the shadow loop will stop the gate from beginning. All safety, show and exit loops are the exact same product; what makes it a specific type of loop is the terminal the loop detector is connected to.
Photo eyes are the residential version. These are the same devices most are familiar with that are at the bottom of most garage door openings. If the beam that is crossing the driveway is broken the gate will stop. The reason this is popular for residential is the ease of installation. The reason it is not popular for commercial is because they are above ground and someone in a commercial setting like an apartment complex could tamper with them. For slide gate openers most use one set of photo eyes parallel with the gate. For swing gate opener installations two sets are used. One parallel with the gate in the closed position and perpendicular of the gate in the open position right past the end of the gate. For photo eyes (also know as photocells - same thing) GateCrafters.com sell mounting posts as well, they should be mounted at a height where a car or truck will break the beam.

What is rack and pinion vs. chain driven slide gate opener?

A chain driven operator has a chain that attaches to both ends of the gate using a bracket. The chain runs the length of the gate and is feed through 2 idlers and a power driven gear. The advantage of chain is that it is very easy to install - especially on round tube gates like chain link. The disadvantage of chain is the fact it is noisy and usually leaves a line of grease under it across the driveway.
Rack and pinion gate openers have a large following in Europe. There are sections of rack that get bolted to the bottom part of the gate forming a straight, level bar sticking about an inch off the side of your gate spanning the length of the gate. On the bottom of this bar there are teeth that face downward - these teeth interact with a mechanized gear on the opener that moves the gate back and forth. The advantage of rack and pinion is that once it is installed it is quiet, highly reliable, and requires little to no maintenance. The disadvantage is that installing it at the right height on the gate and level takes more time and consideration than chain. It also may require a modification to your gate.

It all depends on what gate opener you are using. All of the systems we sell, except the Apollo models, control the charging through the control board. The Apollo systems only require a charge controller for the battery if you are using over 10 watts.
Can I close my gate from the interior station of the F3100MBC GTO/Mighty Mule keypad intercom when my guest leaves?

The F3100MBC Keypad Intercom made by GTO / Mighty Mule (http://www.gatecrafters.com/product_detail_1019.aspx) is not able to open or close the gate from the interior station. There is a button on the interior station to assist in operating the gate but it will not directly activate the gate opener.
When the button on the interior station is pressed it will momentarily change the state of the keypad so any button on the keypad can be pressed to activate the gate opener. However someone has to press a button on the keypad to activate the gate opener.
If a guest was leaving the keypad would be on the opposite side of the driveway as the driver side of the car and it would not be easy for the guest to assist in this. So we have to answer this question as no, you cannot close the gate using the interior station on the F3100MBC to close the gate.

How do I program the Estate Swing E-S 1600, E-S 1602, E-SC 1600, E-SC 1602 gate opener?

This is a very important procedure, without doing this the gate opener will not operate because it does not have a run time programmed in. Also if you lose power for a long period you may have to do this again if the gate opener is flashing OP and then CL on the display without moving.
To program the gate opener run time:
1. Move the gate half way between open and closed and lock the gears engaged.
2. Press and hold P2 until A4 shows on the display.
3. Press the button on the remote, the display will change to PR.
4. The gate will begin to close (if dual both will close but with a 2 second delay between gates)
5. Once closed the gate will automatically open.
6. Once open count for the number of seconds you would want the gate to normally pause for before automatically re-closing and then press your remote again. (If not using automatic re-close press your remote any time after the gate reaches the open position)
7. The gate will close. Once fully closed the programming sequence is over and it is normal operation.
What comes with the wood / vinyl driveway gate frames made by gatecrafters.com?

Why does the 3 rail gate frame come with primer?

The 3 Rail gate frames are made of aluminum. The aluminum will not rust however it can become discolored if left uncoated. We provide a can of self-etching primer made specifically for aluminum as a base coat for painting the aluminum. We do this because paint may be easy to find, but self-etching primer is not and we want to make this project of installing your 3 rail gate kit as easy as possible.
What is a charge control board used for and where can I find one?

Charge control boards have many different uses however in our gate opener business they are used to regulate the incoming power to a battery to keep it from over charging.

Do i have to go under my driveway to install a dual gate operator?

If you want to install a true
dual gate opener where the two units work in coordination with each other than yes.
If you have an expansion joint in the driveway then, depending on the model gate opener and the thickness of the wires crossing the driveway, you may be able to utilize that instead of going under the driveway.

Another option some choose is installing two single gate openers on each side of the driveway. However this option is more expensive and does not behave like a traditional dual gate opener that is coordinated on opening and closing. This only works when you use a gate opener remote with two buttons and you press one button to open one side and the other button to open the other. The driveway gate leafs cannot over lap nor can you use a gate lock. Some try to use a single button remote but the issue with this is if you press the single button and one side opens and the other misses the signal then when you press the remote again it will start the second side and stop the first side. The two driveway gate leafs will be out of unison and become very frustrating to get coordinated again.
If the hinges are steel, will the rust?

The
hinge barrels are primed in a non-rusting primer and then painted. As long as they do not get damaged and proper year to year maintenance on the coating is performed they will last decades. The hinges themselves are made of galvanized steel preventing it from rusting.

The sentry dual gate opener does not have a delay between leafs (meaning one gate openers first and then the second opens). The gate crafters gate lock does require this because the lock does not have much play in it. You must use the sentry gate lock with a dual sentry gate opener. A garage door opener remote can be used if you purchase a compatible receiver to that remote and wire it to the gate opener.
How many volts should the transformer show

It all depends on the transformer.
On the label of the transformer you will see specifications and it will say Primary / Secondary or Input / Output. Primary should always be 120VAC 60 hz.
The Secondary will be the voltage that you should be seeing (within a few volts, it is not uncommon for an 18v transformer to read 20v) on your multimeter. Pay close attention to AC or DC because most multi-meters need to be set to AC or DC and if you check on the wrong setting you will read 0 volts. Even if you have a DC gate opener many times they use an AC output transformer. The board rectifies it to DC, they do this because AC travels a longer distance.

My gate is very light. Can I exceed the rated length?

Gate openers are rated based on the length or the weight of a gate. Some times it is a fixed scale, meaning the gate opener is rated for a length and a weight. For example if a gate opener says 12 feet AND 400 lbs, the manufacturer is saying that the gate can be both. Some times it is a sliding scale, meaning the gate opener is rated for a length or a weight. For example if a gate opener say 12 feet OR 400 lbs then at 400 lbs the gate should be shorter and a 12 feet the gate should be lighter. All the gate openers with this type of rating on GateCrafters.com have the sliding scale is the listing of the gate opener.
In either case you never want to exceed the ratings. Even if your gate is very light the gate opener will not have sufficient leverage on the gate because of the length. So the weight of the gate, although light, has a magnified impact on the gears and motor of the opener causing additional wear and most likely will cause unexpected obstructions.

My gate opens slow, how can I fix this?

If the system runs on a battery, it could need replacing. The battery should be around 13.8 volts fully charged and drop no less than a volt under load. Batteries with a lower voltage will cause the gate to run slower if not fully charged. If it is a 110V system, make sure all hinges are well greased. Remember due to safety specifications, gate are not typically able to travel faster than one foot per second.
I am running low voltage to my gate, how can I also utilize this for gate lights?

Low voltage for your gate opener will have to be separate wires from your low voltage lighting. The reason they have to be separate wires is the transformer for the gate opener is specifically designed to be the right output for the control board of the gate opener. Low enough to not burn the board yet high enough to effectively charge the battery or run the gate opener. If you tire dot borrow power for the lights it would make the batteries charge too slow or the gate opener unintentionally obstruct. If you tired to increase the output of the transformer to effectively feed both the lights and gate opener, if the lights were ever no absorbing the extra amperage this would be too much for the gate opener to handle and would burn your control board.
So to do this most efficiently use a shovel or hoe and make a narrow V shape trench in the ground from the outlet to the gate and the end location for the lights. Purchase direct burial low voltage wire for both the gate opener and lights. Please see the specified gauge for each from the instructions for the lights and the gate opener. Lay both runs of wires in the bottom of the V shape trench and step on the top of the hole to close the V shape trench back in on top of the wires. the best outlet to use is one in your garage because the outlet will need to be covered. It is also smart to use a surge suppressor at the outlet and an in line surge suppressor at the end by the gate opener control board as long runs of wire under ground can attract surges. Use a piece of conduit where the wires protrude from the ground at both ends. This will help protect the wires from being damaged when doing lawn maintenance (ie a weed whacker or lawn mower cutting the wires). Then make your connections to your gate opener and your lights and also to the transformers on the other end at the outlet according to the instructions of both devices.
Do you need to lubricate the chain for your automatic gate opener?

Your chain should be sprayed with a light lubrication, like WD-40 or a spray on lithium grease. Don't use any think grease as the grease can cause stuff to collect on it and be less helpful than intended to be.
Will the long range reciever will work with my Eagle Gate Opener?

The long range receiver will work on any system with a 2 wire terminal dry contact input and a 12 - 24 VDC power output. This device is a universal device and works with most systems, not just gate openers but garage door systems as well.
I live in Quebec Canada and in winter it can get -40 Celsius or -40 Fahrenheit, what gate opener can I use?

We have plenty of gate openers that are rated to handle -20 degree Fahrenheit. The gate opener I would recommend would be the E-S 500/502 depending on if you have a single or dual gate.
Can I replace my standard receiver with a long range receiver?

Are Liftmaster garage door openers compatible with the gate openers?

For LiftMaster garage door openers to work with your gate opener, you will need to have a LiftMaster compatible receiver installed. There are a few different models. In most cases all we need is the model number of your remote and we can tell you the type of LiftMaster receiver you need to install on your gate opener to work.
Does the aligment to the sun will change the voltage?

The solar panel needs to face south in the northern hemisphere (any where north of the equator) and opposite of that south of the equator. It will make a big difference, as to how much you panel will charge your battery. Also in indirect sun the amount of power it produces will be less and also less on cloudy days. The amount of sun and at the angle at which the sun hits it, will make a difference too.

From the inside face of the post to the inside face of the frame of the gate would be 3 1/2 inches. However this is adjustable because the J bolt is threaded and can be adjusted horizontally. Also this assuming our gate is being used, which has a 2" frame. If the frame is bigger the gap will be smaller.
Do I have to use the Bell icon button on the Estate Swing 433 keypad?

Yes, the door bell button is what sends the signal to the gate opener receiver. When typing in a code into the keypad you should press "door bell" your code and then "door bell" again. The first door bell wakes the keypad for the sleep mode. It enters sleep mode to conserve battery. Because of this feature the 9 volt battery typically last 3-4 years. The second pressing of the door bell button sends the signal to the gate.
I have dual swing gates that are push to open whats a good gate opener for them?

If you are push to open you are actually in luck in terms of your selection of gate openers. One of the main factors when your gate is pull to open is the size of the post or column. If your post or column is too large then at time you will need to use a gate opener that is larger (and more expensive) than what you would otherwise need for your size gate to accommodate the large setback. How much "play" is there in the trolley adjustment on a slide gate since the brackets are pre-welded?

The trolley has a threaded rod attached to it that goes through the bracket that is welded on the gate. This threaded rod has 2 inches of vertical adjustment that can be used for leveling the gate.
What type of hinges do I need for my Estate Swing 14 foot Single Swing Gate?

All of our swinging driveway gates get used with ball bearing hinges. If you purchase our 3x3 posts with hinges they come with hinge barrels pre-welded to the posts. Or you can purchase the hinge barrels welded to plates and bolt the plates onto existing posts or columns. Both styles the barrel is on the post or column and the J bolt goes through the frame of the gate.
Can the Aiphone C-123LA be used as a two way intercom system

No, on the Aiphone C-123LA (Dual indoor stations is the C-123LW) the master stations can talk with the door station one at a time. However they cannot talk to each other. The master stations have a component that prevents internal communication. This system is meant to be a gate or door communication system. Both master stations can open the gate.

We do not specifically recommend any installers for the automatic gate openers that we sell. This is because as a company we specialize in assisting the DIY market (do-It-Yourself) and encourage our customers to install the gate openers themselves.
If you do decide to hire someone to install your gate opener a handyman service is a good place to look. Also fencing installers typically have experience in gates. One thing to be aware of when dealing with installers is their time is what you are primarily paying for. So plan to not waste, overspend on it, or have it over sold to you it by understanding your system, the components and how they interact. Our knowledgeable staff can help explain in writing (email: sales@gatecrafters.com) what components are needed for your system, what extras like wires, bolts, etc will be needed to be purchased by the installer. What is the coaxial connection for on the side of my ER-294 Long Range Receiver?

This can be used in conjunction with an antenna that can be mounted up high to get better line of site. The receiver itself has a grey wire that is an antenna. However the receiver is not water tight and needs to be kept in a housing. So the grey antenna can be dangled out of the housing but it would be difficult to place it so it achieves better line of site. This is when the coaxial connector comes into play.
We have an antenna pre-sized for 318 mhz on the site. It s the LR318 Extended range antenna. The can be purchased and modified for 433 mhz. The length of the antenna at the end of the coaxial cable is what has to be a specific length for each frequency. The 433 antenna should be approximately 6.7 inches long.
What is the difference between the GCLOCK and the Estate Swing Low Impact Gate Lock?

The GCLOCK is made for GateCrafters.com as a store brand version of the Estate Swing lock. The only real difference between the two is the GCLOCK is not powder coated black. It is zinc plated steel.
If there is not enough clearance to mount the opener on the inside and have it pull to open, can I mount it on the outside of the gate and set it up push to open?

Yes with any linear actuators installing the gate opener in a push to open configuration and then having it push the gate open to the inside of the property is a viable option.
Typically there are two ways to install a gate opener. Pull to open: The opener is mounted on the inside of the property with the piston fully extended in the closed position. And then as eh piston retracts it pulls the gate open in towards the property. Or it is installed Push to Open: The opener is also mounted on the inside of the property with the piston fully retracted in the closed position. As the piston extends out it pushes the gate open away from the property.
The main thing to remember about the above two statement is the direction the gate is moving (in toward property or out away from property is all relative to the side of the gate the the opener is mounted to. In both scenarios it was stated the opener is on the inside of the property. If the opener is on the outside of the property, the extending and retracting would have the same reaction on the gate for opening however the gate would be moving opposite as described because the opener is mounted opposite as described.
For a Diablo loop detector what does it mean fail safe or fail secure?

A fail safe detector will output “detect” when the loop circuit is failed. On the free exit loop this will keep the gate open until the situation is fixed. This is useful in applications where it is important to allow traffic flow to continue. A fail secure detector will never output “detect” when the loop circuit is failed. This will keep the gate closed. This is useful in high-security areas or installations where containment is needed. The DML-9LP is a fail secure detector. Note: Never use a fail secure detector on a safety loop.
What is the difference between the E-S 300 and E-S 500?

The Estate Swing E-S 300 and E-S 500 use the same control board, have the same motor, and are similar in all other kit inclusion aspects. The only difference is the length of the motor piston. The E-S 300 has a 300mm stroke length and the E-S 500 has a 500mm stroke length. The stroke length is the distance the piston travels in and out. The longer the stroke length is the larger the gate the operator can handle.
Will the EST-1000 GSM intercom operate off a solar panel and deep cycle batteries?

The EST-1000 GSM intercom can be used off solar power and a deep cycle marine battery however it does require a significant amount of energy. The intercom, because it is constantly connecting to a cellular network, requires about 150 milliamps at all times 24 hours a day. It would take about 20 Watts of solar and a 100 amp hour deep cycle marine battery to be maintained solar.

Can I use my GTO transmitter on a replacement gate opener of a different brand?

Not with the standard gate opener kits. However you can purchase a GTO receiver and wire that into any gate opener: http://www.gatecrafters.com/product_detail_7302.aspx
If you do add on the GTO receiver this will not limit your usage of the remotes from the new brand of gate opener. As long as the original receiver of the gate opener is still installed as well both remotes will work.

Does the GTO/PRO FM144 gate lock work with the Estate Swing gate openers?

Yes it does. However the Estate Swing gate lock would be a better fit. The GTO/PRO FM144 gate lock draws about 3 amps when releasing. The Estate Swing gate lock only draws about 1 amp. The Estate Swing gate openers have a power output to the locks from the board for easy wiring so it would be best to have the lowest load possible from this output. GTO/PRO locks are designed to pull from a battery where load does not matter as much.
Are the driveway gates painted or powder coated?

The gatecrafters driveway gates can be either painted or powder coated. We use rustomlum paint for painted gates with a self-etching primer. If powder coating is chosen we send the gates to local powder coating facility and the gate finish comes with an industrial 5 year warranty.
In either case because we build out of aluminum so rust will never be an issue with a gatecrafters driveway gate.
What is the setback of a gate?

The setback of the gate is the distance from the center of the hinge to the mounting position of where the gate system pivots off the post brackets. This measurement is different for each system and is CRITICAL to the proper degree of opening.
What is the difference between the ES lock and the GC lock?

The ESLock is painted in a black powder coat finish, the other GCLock is a standard galvanized silver color.
What is the difference between the E-S 1000H and the Allegiance?

The E-S 1000H is a little more simplistic. It uses a fairly unsophisticated circuit board and magnetic limit switches in the open and closed position. It basically turns on and runs from one limit to the other.
The Allegiant is a more technologically advanced. It uses a fixed limit in the open position and a learned closed position through programming. It has planetary gears which make the operator incredibly efficient. Also the control board has an add-on professional board that has inputs for loops and other devices.
which lubricant do I use to lubricate my sliding gate chain?

To lubricate your sliding gate opener chain use a standard bicycle chain lubricant. You can find this at sporting goods stores. The lubricant typically comes in a small squirt bottle. You will put a small amount on each link of the chain. Then run your gate opener a few times open and closed to help distribute the lubrication.
How do I adjust sensitivity on exit wand sensor?

Burying the exit wand deeper is the typical answer to this question. However we see in your details that you already have the wand buried 3 feet deep and the sensor is still being triggered fairly easily. Our next suggestion if that is not working is to add resistance to the ground lead of the exit sensor. This can be done with a potentiometer. You had also asked in your details if putting the sensor in conduit would help make it less sensitive. This will help a little but typically putting it in conduit is to fix the wand from picking up interference from ground water.
Does the T5 needs special brackets for the push to open application?

Yes and no. They do not sell any special brackets for this and in some applications where the brackets can be mounted behind the gate on the same post or column surface as the driveway gate you will not need anything else. However if you are mounting on the rear of the post or column the brackets may not be long enough and angle iron may be needed.
How many transmitters do you receive with the GateCrafters long range pack?

The long range pack has one transmitter and one receiver. The reason we combine a receiver and transmitter is without both the receiver AND transmitter the items individually are not compatible with other products. Both are needed.
Can I retrofit a 1050 board into a 1550 apollo from 1997?

Yes you can. All Apollo products from the beginning of the company's existence are compatible with the new 1050 board. For mounting the board in the box you can either affix with your own screws or purchase conversion brackets that allow the board to fit on the existing uprights from the old board.
Can a loop be activated and deactivated like a timer?
▼
Yes a loop can be controlled for time of day usage via a timer. The loop activates the gate to open by momentarily closing a circuit to the gate opener. This means the loop detector will have two wires coming off of it going to two terminals on the gate opener. If you take one of those wires and run it through the relay of the timer then the timer will be part of the loops ability to momentarily close the circuit to the gate opener. So if you program the relay of the timer to be off at night, then the circuit will be open inside the timer. Since one of the wires from the loop detector is connected to the control board through the timer the loop will no longer be able to momentarily close the circuit to the gate opener. Thus the gate opener will not be able to be opened during off hours via the loop.
Can the Sentry or Patriot gate opener be used as a plug-in opener?

The gate opener will always run off of a battery. How you charge the battery is up to you. It can be done through a plug in trickle charge. However this is as close to a "plug-in" gate opener as you can get using a Sentry or Patriot.
Is the low impact lock compatible with the Mighty Mule 600?

How or what do I measure my gate opening size and setbacks for a single swing gate?

For a driveway gate from GateCrafters you would want one of two measurements:
If you are planning on using our posts you would want the width from outside post placement to outside post placement. Then we can build a gate to fit within that space accounting for the posts, hinges and gate. So for example, if you have a fence that comes near the driveway on both sides and the gate posts are going to be next to the end post of the fencing then your measurement would be from fence end post to fence end post.
If you have columns or posts that you want to mount our gates to then you would measure from inside face of post to inside face of post. We would design a gate and hinges to fit in that space.
For the setback for the opener, this would only really come into play if using your own posts or columns or if you have a fence or wall perpendicular to the gate right where the posts are. Every opener is different. You would look at the setback of the chosen gate opener and make sure that you mount the gate with enough space to fit those measurements.
I have two fm350, can i make them a dual unit?

Yes you can, you would have to add part:
R4117. This is a dual wire connector to link the two units together.
Does a loop need a loop detector to work?
▼
Yes it does. A loop itself is nothing more than two wires that are twisted together and sealed into a casing to hold the correct number of twists per foot to create induction. The loop detector is what energizes the loop and detects cars. You will need one loop detector for each loop.
I have a Zareba opener is not opening all the way or sometimes opens too far sometime. Or just doesn't want to do anything.

The Zareba brand gate opener was a battery operated system. the first place to look in all battery operated gate opener systems when there are issues is the battery. The battery should be reading at about 13.2VDC and not drop more than about .2 volts under load. You can read it under load by placing your multi-meter on the battery leads and leaving them there as you cycle the gate.
How to you measure for ordering a driveway gate?

If you already have posts the most important measurement when designing a gate is the inside face of one post to the inside face of the other post.
If you do not have posts and you are using our posts the most important measurement is the total area you want to have the posts and the gate; essentially outside face of post it outside face of post. This is typically in between two end fence posts or landscaping on opposite sides of the driveway.

Battery specs for Apollo 1550 ETL gate opener

The replacement battery for all Apollo gate openers should be a 12VDC Group 24 battery, this size is ideal for fitting into their control box.
The electromagnet is not releasing the gate when I push the remote the first time. It releases after pressing the button several times.

The way an electromagnetic lock works (mag lock) is it stays locked when power is being supplied to it. If you remove power it is then unlocked or released. So if there is a case in which the lock is not releasing it is not the lock that is the issue, because there is not a way for the lock to remain locked if the power is indeed being removed from it which would be the function of the gate opener and a relay.
So knowing this it should be looked at how the power is being disconnected from the lock at the beginning of the cycle. Some gate openers do not have a lock release so a relay is used. If a relay is being used the relay should be getting triggered by the motor leads. This is the more reliable way to release the lock. It would mean that if the motor is moving we would know for a fact power is being supplied to the coil side of the relay, it would be impossible for it not to be if the motor is moving. If this is the case with your opener the relay is probably bad. Or you are triggered the relay from someplace else on the board and you should move it.
If you are using the board itself to interrupt power to the mag lock then you would need to see what conditions must be in place for the relay to activate and account for that. For example, on an Apollo 1050 board there is a mag lock release built in. The release will happen if the board is on an opening cycle from the closed limit switch. The Mighty Mule series of gate openers has a fixed limit switch for the open position. If the limit switch breaks then the piston will continue to retract until it bottoms out inside the motor housing. This will cause the control board of the gate opener to react as if it has hit an obstacle and obstructed. It will then reverse directions to back up off the obstacle. If this is happening the Rev Counter board will need to be replaced. This contains the limit switch on it. This is a fairly easy part to replace and it is inside the operator arm. No special tools are need, just a screw driver.

There is no standard, this would depend on property and preference. The goose neck is designed so a car can pull close and have the keypad near the window and post further from the side of the car. Some with a larger driveway would prefer having the keypad stick further into the driveway so the driver can get very close. So the board will be looking for a certain amperage in a normal range and a different in obstruction range; if you motor amperage draw doesn't match what the board is looking for the motor could always obstruct or never obstruct which would be dangerous.
